The Advantages of Telemedicine

Updated: May 13, 2022

There are many advantages of using Telemedicine for your health care needs. Telemedicine has been around now for over 40 years. It is a rapidly growing field. It can be difficult sometimes to get an appointment with primary care doctors and specialists. Telemedicine can help bring you and your provider together more timely and efficiently.

With Telemedicine, you don't have to drive to the doctor's office or clinic, park, walk, or sit in an overcrowded waiting room when you are sick. You don't have to worry about exposing others to your illness or vice versa. Less exposure to other people's germs helps everyone, especially those who are pregnant, elderly or immunocompromised. You can see your provider from the comfort of your own bed or sofa. With inflation and the continuous rising of gas prices, you are saving money by not having to drive to seek medical care. Depending on your schedule, you may not even have to take leave time from work or arrange for child care. You don't even have to leave your pets, as they tend to stay closely beside their humans when they detect that you are feeling bad. Your furry family members are more than welcome to join in on your virtual visit with UVC. Most pharmacy's provide delivery service of your prescriptions to your home.

There are less distractions. After working in the Emergency Room setting for most of my career, I have found that one of the best benefits of Telemedicine is the ability to focus solely on my patient without other distractions such as a child crying in the next room, staff stepping in to inform that I am urgently needed elsewhere, or even an unruly patient screaming profanities out in the hallway.

Sometimes it can be an advantage to include a family member in your virtual visit who can help you provide information, ask questions and take note of answers and instructions. If that person is physically located elsewhere, you can loop your family member in on the virtual visit if you authorize it. This works great for college students whose parents are more able to provide a complete detailed medical history.

You can receive a very thorough physical examination during your virtual visit by use of the most up to date audio/visual peripherals and HIPA compliant software. Most patients comment that "it was the most thorough examination I have ever had". By using your hands as my hands, patients learn how to percuss their sinuses, transilluminate sinuses using a flashlight, palpate the various chains of lymph nodes, trigger points, and various tests used for diagnosing abdominal pain, musculoskeletal injuries etc.

Telemedicine saves your time and has you on your way to feeling better more quickly. There is no long wait times with Urgent Virtual Clinic. You will be seen at your appointment time. I have had patients to have their virtual visit, have an x-ray performed (walk in imaging center), labs drawn (walk in center), and have their prescriptions picked up in way less time than the average ER/ Urgent care center waiting times.

As you can obviously see, Telemedicine has many advantages. There are many more than has been mentioned in this blog. Take advantage of the convenience of Telemedicine today and schedule a virtual visit with Urgent Virtual Clinic LLC. Melissa D. Roberts, PA-C
